These stats are very true and any Actuary can attest to these facts. Insurance companies manage risk by compiling thousands of pages of factual data. What is even more alarming about the stats is that when you look at the lower number of people still driving above the age of 70, the lower number of miles actually driven, they are hardly ever on the roads at peak times driven, yet look at the number of accidents they cause and the number of people they kill, and the property destruction caused by this age group. Now, try to find a politician or an Insurance lobby that has the balls to try to alienate the fastest growing age group in our population. By the way, this past week, an ederly person over the age of 70 drove his car into a bank lobby, and another into a grocery store here in my home town. Both drivers claimed that they panicked and hit the gas instead of the brake. Incompetent drivers at any age are a danger to themselves and other people period.
I'll step off my soap box now. ;^)
